After many discussions with my husband, we have come to the conclusion that it may be time to sign our son up to play sports. The reason that there were so many discussions on the topic is that I don’t think he is ready, but my husband really wants him to get started now so that we can figure out which sport he likes the best. Another reason I don’t want him playing sports yet is because my husband wants to start him off in hockey.

I have always liked hockey, but I don’t want my little guy playing such a rough sport at such a young age. I didn’t even know that they had hockey teams for six year olds! And now that I have agreed with my husband that it may be time to let him play on a team, I am trying to convince my hubby that we should start off with something that doesn’t involve so much contact. I am not a big fan of soccer, but I think tee-ball might be fun for him.

I suppose no matter what sport we choose, or he chooses, I will be happy that he is a part of a team. Sports are a great way to make friends and to learn about teamwork. Though I wasn’t much of an athlete as a child I did play sports in middle school and high school and really enjoyed them. Being able to hang out with friends and have fun is reason enough to play sports.

When it comes to hockey, fans know that being a favorite doesn’t necessarily mean anything. It seems like grit, determination, and hard work pay off more in hockey than any of the other sports. In hockey, skill will only get you so far, at some point it all comes down to heart. The 2012 Stanley Cup Finals prove it.

When the play-offs kicked off, few people thought much about the New Jersey Devils, despite the fact that they’ve won multiple cups in the last twenty years, or the Los Angeles Kings. Most fan’s focused on the Detroit Red Wings, who in addition to being the team that most consistently makes it to the play-offs, also had the longest home winning streak of any team in the NHL, only to get ousted in the first round by the Nashville Predators. Eastern fans split over the Flyers and the Penguins who had perhaps one of the most contentious and exciting first rounds in the history of the NHL.

When the dust of the playoffs finally settled, everyone was stunned to discover that the two teams advancing the finals were not top seeded teams at all. Still, no one can deny that they deserve the accolades. Both the Kings and Devils worked hard and played fair, honest games to get where they were going, ignoring the drama that surrounded the other teams. While no one can predict which team will hoist the coveted Stanley Cup, no one will be able to deny that both teams worked hard and showed a lot of heart in their quest for the Cup.

While Daley will be competing in the diving competition at the young age of 18, Hoy is on the other end of the age spectrum. At age 36, Hoy is still going strong as a track cyclist and has three gold medals to his name from his last Olympic appearance.

Though we may have all heard of the traditional sports such as basketball, tennis, baseball and football, you may be surprised to learn that there are some other sports that many people enjoy that most of the population has never heard of before. The Loved-Lock Race
A “loved lock” race is a totally unique sporting event popping up in the eastern world. Couples face off to see who can complete the race the fastest. The male partner must race with a female partner and overcome challenges during the race while at the same time not losing his partner along the way.  It’s like a bad lover’s quarrel and a fast paced track race combined in one crazy event.

The World Toe Wrestling Competition
If the loved-lock race seems odd, then wait until you hear about this one. Do you remember ever toe wrestling with a sibling when you were younger? Well if you did and you were good at it, you may want to consider competing in the World Toe Wrestling competition. Yes, there is such a thing and it should not be a surprise that it originated in a pub. We can only guess that there was some drinking involved when they came up with this one.

When running with your sweetheart or wrestling a stranger with your toes does not sound like a world sport you would be up for, then maybe you could get in touch with your fighting side with the sport of cardboard tube dueling. Okay, so there probably isn’t too much fighting involved with this sport, but you would be able to take out some aggression without hurting someone too badly. And you could use up all of those old wrapping paper tubes that are just going to waste in your basement. And though there are plenty more interesting sports from around the world that you probably never thought of even trying, we think that these are some of the best.

If this is your first year following the NBA Playoffs you picked an excellent year to start watching.  This year has featured the upset of a number one seed by an 8^th seed, the sweep of a team whose trade rumors plagued an entire season, the sweep of the former world champions, and the rise of what many basketball fans feel is the first player created “super team.” What might the Eastern and Western Conference Finals and the NBA Finals themselves have in store?

Well the Eastern Conference Finals has already been set with the Chicago Bulls, featuring the 2011 NBA MVP Derrick Rose, will square off against the Miami Heat featuring Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh.  Will youth win out over experience of will the “Superfriends” find themselves in the NBA Finals?  Out in the West it looks likely that the Dallas Mavericks and their superstar Dirk Nowitski will square off against the Oklahoma City Thunder and reigning scoring champion Kevin Durant.  This is not set in stone yet though since the Memphis Grizzlies still have a chance to knock off the Thunder in seven games.  The Mavericks have shaken off many unfortunate past trips to the playoffs that ended in losses to step one step closer to the NBA Finals and winning it all.

The NBA’s “second season” is what true basketball fans live for.  It allows fans to see their favorite players square off against each other in full competition mode.  Another great thing to pay attention to during the playoffs is the great coaching that takes place.  When the game comes down to the last play it is really important that the right person is on the sidelines drawing up the X’s and O’s.  After watching the NBA playoffs all the way through you will no doubt be in the mood for more basketball after the “second season” ends.  Why not follow your favorite team during the off-season by checking out the NBA online.

If you follow major league baseball at all, you have probably heard of Jorge Posada, a player for the New York Yankees. Even those who do not make it a point to read the sports news everyday or follow the New York baseball team may have heard of this player who was recently in the news. For Jorge Posada, the drama started after he talked with his manager about being left off the lineup for a game the Yankees were playing against Boston. One of the managers he spoke with claimed that it was not due to injury, but Posada later remarked that it was in fact because of how he was feeling physically.

Though this misunderstanding of the reason started out as an issue for Posada and the team manager, what the team management was most upset about what how Posada handled it while talking with the press. After having time to think about all that had happened Yankee’s player Posada apologized for his overreaction. This turned out to be a great move so that the team could put the incident behind them.

But while Posada was putting the Yankees in the news headlines for a disagreement with management, the team was still having a hard time getting a win. Many Yankee’s fans were less interested in what Posada had to say and more interested in what the team manager was going to do to turn the team’s luck around. After five consecutive losses, a win is what this team and the fans are really looking forward to seeing.
