Sports Teach Teamwork To Kids

If you have kids and you want them to learn how to work well with others before they get out in the real world then you should get them involved in some type of sport activity. Sports teaches teamwork and will help your child to learn that it is not always about winning the game but it’s how you play the game that counts.

Teamwork is all about working with a team. Team can stand for trust, enthusiasm, ambition and motivation. All of these characteristics are great qualities for anyone to have. I know if you have kids that you want them to possess all of these qualities.

In a team environment such as a sports team your child is going to learn how to depend on others to help them achieve a common goal. This is a great thing in the world in which we live because it teaches them to trust in others. Not many folks are very trusting these days and that is a sad fact. On a ball team for example you have to be able to trust that the other team members are not going to hit you in the head with the ball and that they are going to do all they can to win the game with you.

Sports teach teamwork to kids also by allowing them to be motivated. Sometimes it can be hard to motivate your kids to do much of anything but if you allow them to be a part of a sports team they will soon learn motivational skills that can help them out in daily life. Sports can also keep your kids out of trouble, so get them involved in sports today.

Watch Sports On TV With Your Spouse

If you just read the title of this blog post you are most likely thinking that you just don’t know how you can watch sports on TV with your spouse and have a good time. I know for me, watching sports on TV is extremely boring and just hearing a game on TV puts me in a bad mood. I am one of the lucky ones because my husband doesn’t like to watch sports on TV. For those of you who have diehard sports fans as husbands, there are ways to make it fun.

You may be surprised to know that watching sports on TV with your husband is typically a huge turn on for them. If you want to have quality time with your man, give him some quality sports watching time and you will get what you need as a result.

Next time a big game is scheduled to come on TV and you know that your spouse is going to want to watch it, make plans to spend time with him watching. I would suggest making it a party for two by making some of your favorite party foods in advance. Light a few candles and turn on some romantic music. Once the game begins, turn the music off and bring out the food. When your husband sees your efforts to spend time with him doing what he loves to do, he is likely to give you an entire Saturday doing what you like to do. Wouldn’t it be worth it all if your husband decided that since you took time out of your day to do what he loves that he was going to surprise you with a day full of shopping and dining out? I know that would be worth it for me!

Have You Ever Heard of Adult Sports Camp?

When I was a kid all that I ever wanted to do was go to camp. The problem was that my parents never wanted to pay the money for me to go to a good camp like sports camp. I went to many different day camps where I learned how to do things like make twig necklaces or build fires. One year they even sent me to a day camp that was all about learning the history of farming. Sounds exciting, right? Well, I guess I did learn how to milk a cow, but when am I ever going to do that again?

But now that I am an adult, I get to choose what type of camp I want to go to and for me sports camp is a must. I didn’t know until recently that anyone offered a sports camp for adults until my birthday rolled around. I opened up my present from my wife and it was a brochure for a sports camp that was opening this summer. How awesome is that?!

When I first told her that I wanted to go to a sports camp as an adult, she thought that I was silly and didn’t believe me that there were camps that were for adults only. Now not only did she sign me up for a week at a sports camp, but she also found one that she wants to attend as well. I am not sure why anyone would want to go to camp with a bunch of grown women and craft or whatever it is she will be doing, but if it means I get to go to camp too, then I am one happy camper.

The Monday Night Football Controversy

Every football fan loves MNF. Monday Night Football has been around for many, many years and the fans love the games simply because they offer a chance to watch the best games with the best announcers. However, over the years there has been a conversation about the lack of quality on MNF. This past Monday was a great example of this story. Allow me to give the backstory first. This past Monday night’s game was between the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Giants. Both teams have been terrible all year and they were even worse this night. The Vikings had won only one game and the Giants had zero wins. AS the game started it became obvious that the game was a dud.

The Vikings started Josh Freeman at the quarterback position. The sad thing is that he has only been in this position for 10 days. He was not ready for the game and it showed. He missed on 33 different passes. So the real question is whether or not the NFL should have changed the schedule so that this game was not on the television? Obviously the schedules are made before the season starts and there is no easy way to make sure that the games showcase the best of the NFL. But why not have the option of flexing the schedule a little bit? What would that hurt? This past Monday night saw one of the worst games ever and the public will not stay with this for long if it continues. MNF should be compelling and it should show the best of the best. The NFL can do better and I expect something to be done.

Why Men Love Sports

Sporting events have always appealed to more men then to women. This does not mean that women are not allowed to view sports or that women are not welcome. It does mean that men are the typical fans of sports teams. Why is this the case? Some would argue that men are always looking for a new type of entertainment. Others will say that men are barbaric and that they need a new way to express themselves. Regardless of where you fall in this argument there are a few things that you need to keep in mind when it comes to men and sporting events.

First, men like sports because the yare easy to follow. Men are not dumb and they are not looking for a way to suppress their inner scholar. Men are typically looking for a way to relax and unwind. When it comes to sporting events they are going to cheer for their favorite team as if it was a fight between good and evil. Men want to relax and sporting events help them do it. Second, men like sporting events because there is usually an open bar somewhere in the vicinity. Again, this goes back to unwinding and having a good time. What goes better with football than an ice-cold beer? Finally, men like sporting events because of the cheerleaders. Yes it is simplistic. No it is not sexist. Men like looking at pretty ladies and the cheerleaders are there as eye candy for the men. This is why men love sports.

Sports Offer Fun For the Whole Family

Finding activities that the whole family can do together can sometimes feel like a challenge. If you have older kids, you need to come up with ideas that will keep them entertained and make them want to spend time with the rest of the family. Younger children may seem to be easier to entertain, but can still bring some challenges to the table. So what if you are a family with children of all ages and need to find something that will make everyone happy and entertained while at the same time spending time with the rest of the family?

The easy answer to this is to get your family involved in sports. There are lots of types of games that the whole family, young and old can enjoy together. A great idea for a family that has a lot of members is to play a team sport that is simple enough for the young ones to understand. Perhaps you could form a team and hit baseball field. Another idea would be to grab a basketball and go the local basketball court. If you have kids that like to run around and burn some energy, flag football is a good idea.

Since not everyone will always like each game consider taking turns with which games you play. Maybe even have some kids or adults sit out and be the cheerleaders for one team or another. Make sure that if you have kids that vary greatly in age, it may be difficult to keep everyone happy, but choosing to play sports is your best option. If you need ideas of games that are great for the whole family, try searching online to see if other families have suggestions.

When Should I Start My Child in Sports?

After many discussions with my husband, we have come to the conclusion that it may be time to sign our son up to play sports. The reason that there were so many discussions on the topic is that I don’t think he is ready, but my husband really wants him to get started now so that we can figure out which sport he likes the best. Another reason I don’t want him playing sports yet is because my husband wants to start him off in hockey.

I have always liked hockey, but I don’t want my little guy playing such a rough sport at such a young age. I didn’t even know that they had hockey teams for six year olds! And now that I have agreed with my husband that it may be time to let him play on a team, I am trying to convince my hubby that we should start off with something that doesn’t involve so much contact. I am not a big fan of soccer, but I think tee-ball might be fun for him.

I suppose no matter what sport we choose, or he chooses, I will be happy that he is a part of a team. Sports are a great way to make friends and to learn about teamwork. Though I wasn’t much of an athlete as a child I did play sports in middle school and high school and really enjoyed them. Being able to hang out with friends and have fun is reason enough to play sports.

The Unpredictable Road to the Stanley Cup Finals

When it comes to hockey, fans know that being a favorite doesn’t necessarily mean anything. It seems like grit, determination, and hard work pay off more in hockey than any of the other sports. In hockey, skill will only get you so far, at some point it all comes down to heart. The 2012 Stanley Cup Finals prove it.

When the play-offs kicked off, few people thought much about the New Jersey Devils, despite the fact that they’ve won multiple cups in the last twenty years, or the Los Angeles Kings. Most fan’s focused on the Detroit Red Wings, who in addition to being the team that most consistently makes it to the play-offs, also had the longest home winning streak of any team in the NHL, only to get ousted in the first round by the Nashville Predators. Eastern fans split over the Flyers and the Penguins who had perhaps one of the most contentious and exciting first rounds in the history of the NHL.

When the dust of the playoffs finally settled, everyone was stunned to discover that the two teams advancing the finals were not top seeded teams at all. Still, no one can deny that they deserve the accolades. Both the Kings and Devils worked hard and played fair, honest games to get where they were going, ignoring the drama that surrounded the other teams. While no one can predict which team will hoist the coveted Stanley Cup, no one will be able to deny that both teams worked hard and showed a lot of heart in their quest for the Cup.

5 Ideas for the Ultimate Superbowl Party

Superbowl is that time of year that everyone ditches their diet and just goes all out with food and drinks. Most Superbowl parties are held in homes with tons of people and food. Many people who throw these parties wonder what the best decorations or food is for this great event. There are 5 great ideas to have the ultimate Superbowl party.

#1: Decorate in the colors of the two teams. This can make a party exciting and full of color and life. You can get plates, napkins, and plastic silverware that supports each both teams playing and makes every party-goer happy depending on whom they support.

#2: Prepare football shaped foods. If there is a snack of food that can look like a football, make it. Cakes, sandwiches, candies, and rolls can all be made to look like a football which makes eating at a Superbowl party lots of fun.

#3: Prepare fun games for kids. This can be a fun thing to do. There are usually tons of kids at these parties and many of them are not going to sit down and watch football. Having fun games and treats especially for them can make a Superbowl party more fun for all ages.

#4: Have fun seating. There can be a lot of people that won’t have anywhere to sit during the big game. It can be fun to have beanbags and comfortable chairs for all of your guests. This can help everyone enjoy his or her time and be comfortable at the same time.

#5: Have plenty of conversation time for those who do not watch football. This will usually be the women that just want to hang out with the other ladies the whole time. This can make it a great time for guys to fellowship and ladies to get to know each other.

Preparing for Try-Out’s

I just finished high school and am going into college to study astrology and a few other things but I also wanted to be able to play some of the sports that I wanted to play in college. In high school I played football, baseball, and basketball and would like to do the same thing in college. However I knew that I would have to make a life change so that I could actually be able to physically make it in sports now and be able to make the tryouts.

I had started smoking with a bunch of friends and just never quit. I knew the risks of smoking having lost an aunt to lung cancer but I still smoked anyways. I was told by the college that I needed to quit smoking if I wished to play in any sports because I would not be able to perform my best if I was a smoker. I decided to quit smoking and I decided to do so with a method I had seen on the news. I decided to try the electronic cigarette.

Even though I had seen the ecig on television I wanted to go online to read a bit more about switching to ecigs and finding the best ecig out there for me. I found out quickly that an ecig would be the best choice to quit smoking. I found that the ecig still gives you nicotine but the smoke is harmless and odorless and does not cause any problems with breathing or cancer. I found that most ecigs are battery operated and the e cig cartridges contain the liquid that is comprised of water, glycerin, and nicotine.

This when turned on turns into a water vapor that looks much like smoke. I decided to read even further and started reading a electronic cigarette review that stated that Premium E Cigs are the best way to go so I went on another website and read a Premium E Cigarette Review that was very interesting. I decided to go with this particular brand to help me to stop smoking and be able to go in for college tryouts.

I started smoking the ecigs and do not regret it. My breathing is a lot better and my general health is a lot better. When I went in for college tryouts I made it into everything that I tried out for. No one even knows that I still smoke with the help of ecigs. I have also helped some of my college friend’s switch to ecigs and a few family members. It has been my personal mission to get rid of tobacco cigarettes and get everyone smoking electronic cigarettes so that we can all be healthier and breathe easier.

Sneak Peak: Summer 2012 Olympians

Though it may seem to some that the winter Olympics were not too long ago, others cannot wait to start watching what is sure to be an event not to miss, the summer 2012 Olympics. And while you may have your favorite events, there are also some great athletes that you will want to keep your eye on as well. Because only the best are picked to compete in the Olympics, almost every event you are planning on watching will showcase the talents of these great athletes.

If swimming is one of your favorite sports, then the person you will want to keep an eye on in 2012 is Michael Phelps. Though professional swimming is not a sport that many people follow, you would be hard pressed to find a fan of the Olympics who is not familiar with this name. And there is a very good reason for this. In 2008 alone, Phelps got his hands on eight gold medals all in different events.

For fans of racing on land instead of water, the man to watch in 2012 is Usain Bolt from Jamaica. If speed is your thing, then you may already know about this guy and what he can do when it comes to running 100 or even 200 meters. Though he has broken records in both of these races, don’t count him out for the relay event. Because one of his top competitors in racing, Tyson Gay, will also be competing, it will make these events some of the most exciting ones to watch in London.

Other names that fans should be on the lookout for include Tom Daley and Chris Hoy. While Daley will be competing in the diving competition at the young age of 18, Hoy is on the other end of the age spectrum. At age 36, Hoy is still going strong as a track cyclist and has three gold medals to his name from his last Olympic appearance.

Crazy Sports from Around the World

Though we may have all heard of the traditional sports such as basketball, tennis, baseball and football, you may be surprised to learn that there are some other sports that many people enjoy that most of the population has never heard of before. They might sound wacky (and most of them are), but they bring in huge audiences around the world.  Let’s take a look at some of the world’s craziest sports.

The Loved-Lock Race
A “loved lock” race is a totally unique sporting event popping up in the eastern world. Couples face off to see who can complete the race the fastest. The male partner must race with a female partner and overcome challenges during the race while at the same time not losing his partner along the way.  It’s like a bad lover’s quarrel and a fast paced track race combined in one crazy event.

The World Toe Wrestling Competition
If the loved-lock race seems odd, then wait until you hear about this one. Do you remember ever toe wrestling with a sibling when you were younger? Well if you did and you were good at it, you may want to consider competing in the World Toe Wrestling competition. Yes, there is such a thing and it should not be a surprise that it originated in a pub. We can only guess that there was some drinking involved when they came up with this one.

Cardboard Tube Dueling
When running with your sweetheart or wrestling a stranger with your toes does not sound like a world sport you would be up for, then maybe you could get in touch with your fighting side with the sport of cardboard tube dueling. Okay, so there probably isn’t too much fighting involved with this sport, but you would be able to take out some aggression without hurting someone too badly. And you could use up all of those old wrapping paper tubes that are just going to waste in your basement. And though there are plenty more interesting sports from around the world that you probably never thought of even trying, we think that these are some of the best.

New to the NBA Playoffs?

If this is your first year following the NBA Playoffs you picked an excellent year to start watching.  This year has featured the upset of a number one seed by an 8th seed, the sweep of a team whose trade rumors plagued an entire season, the sweep of the former world champions, and the rise of what many basketball fans feel is the first player created “super team.” What might the Eastern and Western Conference Finals and the NBA Finals themselves have in store?

Well the Eastern Conference Finals has already been set with the Chicago Bulls, featuring the 2011 NBA MVP Derrick Rose, will square off against the Miami Heat featuring Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh.  Will youth win out over experience of will the “Superfriends” find themselves in the NBA Finals?  Out in the West it looks likely that the Dallas Mavericks and their superstar Dirk Nowitski will square off against the Oklahoma City Thunder and reigning scoring champion Kevin Durant.  This is not set in stone yet though since the Memphis Grizzlies still have a chance to knock off the Thunder in seven games.  The Mavericks have shaken off many unfortunate past trips to the playoffs that ended in losses to step one step closer to the NBA Finals and winning it all.

The NBA’s “second season” is what true basketball fans live for.  It allows fans to see their favorite players square off against each other in full competition mode.  Another great thing to pay attention to during the playoffs is the great coaching that takes place.  When the game comes down to the last play it is really important that the right person is on the sidelines drawing up the X’s and O’s.  After watching the NBA playoffs all the way through you will no doubt be in the mood for more basketball after the “second season” ends.  Why not follow your favorite team during the off-season by checking out the NBA online.

Sports Superstar: Jorge Posada

If you follow major league baseball at all, you have probably heard of Jorge Posada, a player for the New York Yankees. Even those who do not make it a point to read the sports news everyday or follow the New York baseball team may have heard of this player who was recently in the news. While it may seem that there is always one professional athlete or another who is making headlines for actions on and off the field, the names and reasons for headlines are always changing.

For Jorge Posada, the drama started after he talked with his manager about being left off the lineup for a game the Yankees were playing against Boston. Though there was no initial issue with seeing him left off of the lineup, the reason behind his time on the bench would later be debated by those closest to the team. One of the managers he spoke with claimed that it was not due to injury, but Posada later remarked that it was in fact because of how he was feeling physically.

Though this misunderstanding of the reason started out as an issue for Posada and the team manager, what the team management was most upset about what how Posada handled it while talking with the press. After having time to think about all that had happened Yankee’s player Posada apologized for his overreaction. This turned out to be a great move so that the team could put the incident behind them.

But while Posada was putting the Yankees in the news headlines for a disagreement with management, the team was still having a hard time getting a win. Many Yankee’s fans were less interested in what Posada had to say and more interested in what the team manager was going to do to turn the team’s luck around. After five consecutive losses, a win is what this team and the fans are really looking forward to seeing.

Keeping Up with Sports News

Whether you want to find the score of last night’s basketball game or learn the latest about what is happening in the personal life of your favorite athlete, there are many places you can go to find current sports news. Some people wait until they get the newspaper each day to find out about the score of the game or when their team will be playing next. Others know that there is an easier way to get the scoop without waiting on the paper boy.

Just like many other things, current sports news is always available online from many different sources. Often times you can go online and look at any news site to find out about how your favorite team did in the last game that they played. Another great reason to choose the internet over the newspaper is that you can see more pictures and sometimes even see video of the game you may have missed the night before.

You should also know that when you visit online sports news sites, you can often read more than one point of view of the same story. While you may be a fan of one team or another it is great that online, you can find out what fans of each team playing think about how the game went the night before. By reading online game talk, it gives you a more detailed view of how the game happened than reading a column by a paid sports journalist.

Many times you can get information about teams and players and read different points of view from experts in that particular sport. Maybe you heard somewhere that one of the best players on your favorite team was injured and will not be able to play in the next game. By going online you can get information from the experts about whether or not they think that the player will be able to heal in time for the game. Finding current sports news shouldn’t be too difficult to do, but finding the time to read all of the great news stories could be challenging!
